ProfileClever Planet enables customers to donate online to Australian not-for-profit organizations, both on their own behalf, and as a gift. This is done through their website, www.cleverplanet.com.au. As many not-for-profit organizations lack the resources to manage online donations, they are unable to harness the power and reach of the Internet to help their cause. Clever Planet seeks to remove those obstacles for these not-for-profit organizations and encourage on-going donations and via the Internet.
ChallengeIn 2004, Clever Planet commenced business operations and required a robust and flexible website to be the facility for customers to donate money online to a wide range of not-for-profit organizations operating in Australia. Custom programming was required to provide customers with multiple options on which not-for-profit organization to donate to using multiple search terms. Payment transactions were required to be secure and a custom backend system needed to be created for staff to manage and implement operational processes and on-going fund-raising campaigns. Rice Studios was approached by Clever Planet to consult, develop and implement a suitable low-cost online solution that would cater to their current needs yet be flexible to grow with the business. Clever Planet also needed a solution to support their e-marketing activities, including a monthly newsletter, sending out press releases, and maintaining a database of customers to communicate with on an on-going basis. Clever Planet wanted solutions that were cost-effective, easy-to-use and low-maintenance.
SolutionThe team at Rice Studios recognised that Mambo, our open source content management system, was ideal for this project as it provided the richness in functionality and system robustness that Clever Planet required. Working closely with Clever Planet's CEO, the team developed the website to reflect a friendly and inviting environment to draw potential donors. We customised the back-end administrative portion of Mambo to handle the various tasks and processes that were required, with scope to grow the system as the business grows. Rice Studios implemented the use of Oi! email marketing system, as a complementary system to Mambo, to effectively create and manage email marketing campaigns and e-newsletters as needed. Additionally, Mambo and Oi! training were provided for Clever Planet staff.
ResultClever Planet's business has since grown manyfold and has attained it's goal to provide an easy-to-use website for its donors and staff to manage. The not-for-profit organizations they approach have signed on long term after witnessing continual results in donations to their organizations via the Clever Planet website.
